Blue Lake Australia
By: Sarah E. McKenzie
Blue Lake is located in Mount Gambier, South Australia. It is known as "God's Bathtub" for, not only, it's beauty but its mystery as well. The lake is located in an extinct volcanic maar. During the winter the lake turns a dull grey and during the summer the lake turns a dark turquoise blue. This is to be believed because of the sunlight during the different seasons. During Summer, there is a higher position of the sun where the suns rays hit the surface of the lake, making the water appear more blue. While in winter, the sun is at a lower position and doesn't warm the lake and its rays don't hit the lakes surface as well. No one knows why the Climate doesn't affect the lake though. The suns rays don't affect the inhabitants either. The lake is Fresh water and at least 236 feet deep. It inhabits endangered Oxleyan Pygmy Perch, a very tiny fish. The lake is also surrounded by a forest full of flora and fauna.
